Jeep - Jalan Besar
Set within the historic fabric of Jalan Besar, this conserved island block has been thoughtfully revitalised into a three-storey mixed-use development comprising 26 unique units.
The upper floors accommodate self-contained residential apartments designed for contemporary urban living, while the ground level is activated with retail spaces that contribute to the street’s lively character.
As Lead Architect, the design approach carefully balances heritage conservation requirements with the integration of modern building systems. Key architectural elements are sensitively restored and retained, while new interventions are introduced with a light touch -ensuring the building remains both relevant and respectful to its past.
The project also aspires toward the BCA Green Mark Gold Plus certification, incorporating energy-efficient strategies and smart technologies to enhance environmental performance and occupant comfort.
Jalan Besar - literally “big road” in Malay - has evolved from its origins as a plantation track in the 19th century into one of Singapore’s most eclectic urban districts.
Today, it is known for its richly textured streetscape of conserved shophouses, independent businesses, and creative culture.
Drawing from this context, the development adopts a contemporary yet contextually responsive design language, reflecting the district’s layered identity and ongoing transformation.
